Highlighting the importance of scientific research and international partnerships, Sohar University hosted the 15th International Scientific Forum. This groundbreaking event, the first of its kind in Oman, was held under the theme "University Innovation and Comprehensive Development" in collaboration with the international scientific platform Arid. The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Kindi, Governor of Al Batinah North, with the forum gathering 1,200 scholars, researchers and experts from around the globe.
The forum received 133 scientific research submissions, of which 104 were accepted. The opening ceremony began with a speech by Dr Hamdan al Fazari, Vice-Chancellor of Sohar University, who stated:
"Our partnership with the 'Arid' scientific platform reflects our commitment to supporting scientific research and staying aligned with the accelerating global technological advancements. Innovation and entrepreneurship are fundamental pillars for building a knowledge-based economy that fosters societal prosperity and development."
This was followed by a keynote address from Dr Saif al Suwaidi, General Supervisor of the forum and CEO of Arid, who remarked: "Comprehensive development and university innovation are the central themes of this year's forum. Here, scholars and researchers from diverse disciplines convene to discuss the role of universities as key drivers of development by promoting social responsibility, managing knowledge, and fostering innovative solutions aimed at human advancement and societal growth."
The main speaker, Prof Yousef al Suwaidi, emphasised in his address: "The International Scientific Forum has always been a beacon that brings together elite scientists, thinkers and researchers from across the Arab world. They discuss the latest trends and advancements in various scientific fields, including humanities, social sciences, applied sciences, health sciences, engineering and development. The forum sessions aim to enhance the exchange of expertise and shape innovative solutions that serve the interests of our communities and nations."
