The recent "Innovation Takeoff Event," held in the presence of prominent dignitaries, highlighted the Mohammed Al Barwani (MB) Group of Companies’ efforts to recognise and reward creativity and excellence across various industries. The event showcased a practical application of innovation in the Omani context, demonstrating the Group's commitment to nurturing talent and aligning its initiatives with Oman’s broader developmental goals.

The event, attended by Mohsen al Hadhrami, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, and Dr Ghazi al Rawas, Dean of Research at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), underscored the critical role innovation plays in driving Oman’s progress. With nearly 50 employees honoured for their contributions, MB Group’s approach reflects a commitment to fostering a workplace culture that values creativity and problem-solving.

Speaking to the Observer, Rahma al Barwani, Manager of the Innovation Hub Centre, explained the broader significance of this initiative, “The importance of what we do lies in how we help employees innovate. Their ideas and projects are what propel industries forward, improve safety, and with the potential to add value to the economy through new IP in the future. Importantly, we also play a role in improving the employee's experience, and instilling a strong sense of pride in our people.”

This perspective underscores how empowering employees not only benefits the organisation but also contributes to Oman’s socio-economic development. By fostering innovation, MB Group is helping create solutions that align with Oman Vision 2040 goals while strengthening the country’s competitive edge globally.

The event celebrated 12 innovative ideas approved for development under the 2024 Innovation Cycle. These ideas include initiatives aimed at safety digitalisation, waste reduction, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) improvements. Such projects hold potential to address some of Oman’s pressing challenges, such as enhancing workplace safety standards, minimising industrial waste, and promoting environmentally responsible practices.

The recognition of employees who implemented impactful projects demonstrates how innovation can yield measurable benefits. Whether through monetary savings, streamlined processes, or fostering a collaborative workplace environment, these projects set a benchmark for other organisations in the Sultanate of Oman to follow.
