MUSCAT: The Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), represented by the Oman Sports and Active Society Committee, organised the 2024 Olympic Day in Muscat Governorate on Tuesday morning.
Over 300 school students from different age groups took part in the sporting event held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher and Muscat Grand Mall amid a wide participation and a great interaction from the participants who showed remarkable enthusiasm and interaction with the event.
The event witnessed a multitude of sports activities that included swimming, football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, table tennis, athletics, weightlifting in addition to a drawing and colouring competition and a cultural competition among the participating students. This is in addition to events that aimed to to encourage the students to discover their sports talents in an encouraging and stimulating atmosphere. The activities received a great turnout that reflects the importance of such events in promoting physical activity and incorporating it in everyday life of society members.
The event was sponsored by Muscat Grand Mall and Aster Al Raffah Hospital as the medical partner. The activities focused on instilling Olympic values into the students including fair play, respect for others and attaining mind-body balance. The event also aimed to highlight the importance of sports not only as a means of competition, but also as a tool for individual and social development.
The Oman Olympic Committee was keen to provide a safe and enjoyable competitive environment that encourages participants to enjoy sports competitions and enhances their passion for physical activity.
The Olympic Day is part of the Oman Olympic Committee’s commitment to promoting community sports, raising awareness of the importance of physical activity in improving public health and encouraging positive values. By organising the event, the OOC seeks to engage the entire community in a sporting experience that combines entertainment and benefit as well as enhancing social cohesion and encouraging healthy lifestyles.

The Olympic Day is an international sporting event celebrated by the national Olympic committees on June 23 each year to commemorate the founding of the International Olympic Committee. This day was celebrated for the first time in 1948 with the aim of spreading the Olympic values and promoting sport as an essential part of the lives of individuals and societies.
