MUSCAT: Al Bashayer Club are set to play a crucial match this Tuesday evening as they face Bahrain’s Al Ahli Club in the West Asia Super League (WASL) for basketball. The game will kick off at the main hall of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. Both teams are aiming for their first victory in the tournament, having suffered losses in the previous two rounds against Shabab Al Ahli (UAE) and Kuwait Club (Kuwait). This encounter is particularly significant as both sides are looking to avoid finishing at the bottom of the group.
Al Ahli Club arrived in Muscat on Monday and conducted a light training session to recover and prepare for the game. The West Asia Super League is considered a key platform for regional competition, with the group stage being played in a home and away format. Six teams will advance to the final stages, ultimately competing for the WASL title and the Asia Champions Cup. The winner of the tournament will then qualify for the Intercontinental Cup, the premier club competition under the International Basketball Federation (Fiba).
Al Bashayer conducted their final training session at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, with the players showing high spirits and optimism to deliver an impressive performance. The training included light drills, offensive tactics, and shooting practice from various distances and under the basket. All 14 players on the team’s roster participated, including Mahmoud al Souli, Hadeed Bait Bukhait, Osama al Riyami, Tamim al Riyami, Ahmed al Halhali, Noah al Mahrouqi, Saeed al Saadi, Bassam al Busaidy, Eid Ghassan, as well as three foreign professionals from Serbia and the USA. The team is led by Serbian coach Arujan Vaskanin, assisted by national coach Mahmoud Ambo Ali.
This game represents a valuable opportunity for both teams to improve their group standings and stay in the competition. The WASL offers a unique experience for clubs to participate in a competitive regional tournament that gathers top teams from the area, contributing to raising the technical level and enhancing their continental and international presence.
