MUSANDAM: A high-level delegation, led by Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said al Busaidi, Governor of Musandam, and including Eng Ibrahim bin Saeed al Kharousi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) for Heritage, and Eng Mohsen bin Hamad al Hadhrami, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, reviewed key social investment projects undertaken by OQ Exploration and Production Company (OQEP) in Musandam Governorate.
The delegation, joined by Eng Ahmed al Azkawi, CEO of OQEP, and other officials, visited the Dibba Archaeological Visitor Centre in the Wilayat of Dibba, a flagship project implemented by the MHT and funded by OQEP in partnership with the Governor’s Office. This initiative underscores OQEP’s commitment to community engagement and social responsibility.
The Dibba Archaeological Visitor Centre, spanning 17,562 square meters, houses essential facilities and interactive exhibits that highlight the historical and cultural significance of the area. The site includes an archaeological excavation zone featuring artifacts from the Bronze Age, Late Stone Age, and Islamic periods.
Eng Al Kharousi described the project as a pivotal step in leveraging Musandam’s rich heritage to attract local and international tourists. “The centre combines interactive historical displays with innovative methods for showcasing artifacts, offering a comprehensive educational experience. It aims to support cultural tourism, create employment opportunities for local youth, and enhance the region’s economic vitality,” he stated.
He also expressed gratitude to OQEP and the Governor’s Office for their financial and logistical support, which has been instrumental in preserving and promoting Oman’s heritage. “We are confident the centre will become a cultural beacon, enhancing Musandam's position as a premier heritage tourism destination in Oman,” Al Kharousi added.
Eng Ahmed al Azkawi reaffirmed OQEP’s dedication to social investment, noting that the company has allocated over RO 4 million since 2020 to projects that align with government efforts to enhance urban, environmental, and tourism infrastructure in Musandam.
In addition to the Dibba Archaeological Visitor Centre, OQEP has spearheaded other notable initiatives, including the Dibba Waterfront, the Telegraph Island development, and the Bassa Beach Project in collaboration with Omran Group. Additional projects, such as the Madha Park Development and Bukha Waterfront, are aimed at boosting the governorate's appeal.
“These projects reflect our commitment to sustainable development, benefiting local communities and ensuring a lasting impact. Our goal is to empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and contribute to the growth of cultural and recreational opportunities in Musandam,” Al Azkawi said.
The delegation also discussed the Musandam Culture and Innovation Centre, a collaborative effort between OQEP and other oil companies, which focuses on preserving heritage while fostering innovation and creativity.
