Muscat: A new film, 'Al Khanjar', produced jointly by the Ministry of Information and Russia Today (RT), premiered at the National Museum of Oman. The event was graced by Dr Abdullah Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information.
In a statement, Anisa Murad, Director of Programmes at RT, said this project is more than just a documentary about the Omani dagger’s history.
The film goes beyond the journey of the Omani dagger from the National Museum in Muscat to the Russian State Hermitage Museum.
It mirrors Oman itself, its traditions, culture, and its ability to embrace globalization while preserving its national identity.
“Oman’s experience parallels Russia’s efforts to protect its cultural heritage amid global changes.”, Murad said.
The 28-minute film chronicles the Omani dagger’s history, dating back to the 17th century during the era of the Yaruba Imams.
It explores the evolution of this iconic symbol from the early daggers to the distinct Saidi dagger, reflecting its deep-rooted significance in Oman’s cultural identity, which continues to resonate today.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by some guests and key figures from media and museum sectors.
