MUSCAT: Oman Club beat Sohar 2-1 at the Seeb Sports Stadium on Monday during the 11th round of the Omani Football League.
The first half started with relative dominance by Sohar, who applied pressure from the opening minutes. Although Oman Club’s performance improved gradually, its goalkeeper and defence thwarted Sohar’s dangerous attempts, particularly a powerful shot by Mohammed al Buraiki in the 25th minute that came close to breaking the deadlock.
On the other side, Oman Club missed a golden opportunity in the 37th minute when Ahmed al Siyabi delivered a perfect ball to defender Saud al Habsi, but Sohar's defender Ahmed al Abdulsalam’s last-minute intervention prevented a goal. The first half ended goalless despite earnest efforts from both teams.
The second half commenced with clear enthusiasm from both sides. Sohar managed to open the scoring in the 60th minute with a precise header from Abdullah al Shibli, capitalising on a miscalculation by Oman Club’s goalkeeper, Al Hasani. Oman Club responded swiftly in the 68th minute, as Mahmoud al Hasani netted a brilliant header into the back of the net, levelling the match.
The final minutes saw intense competition, with both teams striving for a decisive goal. In the 93rd minute, substitute Qasim Said delivered the winner with an impressive dribble inside the penalty area, firing the ball powerfully into the right corner past goalkeeper Al Rashidi.
With this win, Oman Club increased its tally to 21 points, holding onto third place in the league standings. Sohar remained at 9 points and now faces the risk of dropping from ninth place, with only a two-point lead over Sur and Al Shabab.
In another match, Seeb Club claimed a 3-1 victory over Al Nasr held at Al Saada Sports Complex.
It began with evident competitiveness and exchanged attacks between the two teams, with Seeb holding a slight edge. In the 35th minute, Abdulaziz al Muqbali opened the scoring for Seeb, capitalising on a swift counterattack. He broke into the penalty area and struck a powerful shot past goalkeeper Ibrahim al Rajhi.
Al Nasr attempted a quick response but failed to pose a significant threat to Seeb’s goal. In the 39th minute, Al Muqbali doubled Seeb’s lead, finishing a perfect pass with a precise shot into the net. Seeb nearly added a third goal in the 45th minute, but Jameel al Yahmadi squandered a clear chance, leaving the first half to end 2-0 in Seeb’s favour.
The second half saw Al Nasr regain some attacking vigour, managing to reduce the deficit in the 59th minute through Marwan Taib via a penalty awarded for a handball by Eid al Farsi. Despite narrowing the gap, Seeb continued to dominate and exploited Al Nasr’s defensive gaps. In the 65th minute, Jameel al Yahmadi sealed the victory with a third goal, courtesy of an assist from al Muqbali.
Both teams created further opportunities in the final minutes but failed to add to the scoreline, leaving the match to end in a 3-1 win for Seeb.
