SALALAH: The 7th Mathematics Competition for Post-Basic Education Schools, organised by Dhofar University, concluded with a grand closing ceremony on Monday at the university's conference hall. Sponsored by Salalah Port, the event brought together students from schools across the Dhofar Governorate, celebrating their mathematical prowess and enthusiasm.

The ceremony was held under the patronage of Dr Maitha bint Bakhit Al Shahri, Director-General of the Directorate General of Education in Dhofar Governorate, in the presence of Professor Amer bin Ali Al Rawas, President of Dhofar University, alongside university faculty members and competition supervisors.

In his keynote address, Dr Khalid bin Muslim Al Mashaikhi, Dean of the College of Arts and Applied Sciences at Dhofar University, emphasised the pivotal role played by the university’s Department of Mathematics and Sciences in organising the competition.

Dr Al Mashaikhi also highlighted the university’s strong collaboration with the local educational sector. He shared that 247 university students received hands-on training in Dhofar schools this semester, reflecting a robust partnership. Additionally, he noted that faculty members have spearheaded over 180 community initiatives in less than two years, with more than 90% conducted in local schools.

These activities encompassed a range of engagements, including lectures, seminars, meetings, and training programmes, underscoring the university’s unwavering commitment to community enrichment.

The event concluded with Dr Maitha Al Shahri presenting awards to the winning schools, outstanding students, and the competition's sponsor. A commemorative group photo captured the spirit of the occasion, celebrating the participants' dedication and achievements.
