RIYADH: The Sultanate of Oman participated in the closing ceremony of the Diplomatic Conference for the Conclusion and Adoption of a Treaty on Design Law in Riyadh. During the event, member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) adopted the ‘Riyadh Treaty on Design Law,’ which aims to empower designers and foster global cooperation in design protection.

Oman’s delegation, led by Ambassador Idris bin Abdulrahman al Khanjari, Permanent Representative to the United Nations and International Organisations in Geneva, signed the treaty, reaffirming the nation's commitment to advancing intellectual property rights.

The treaty is expected to streamline patent systems and industrial design agreements, reduce procedural complexities, and support designers by safeguarding their creative works. It also links design protection to traditional knowledge and cultural expressions, promoting respect for heritage in design registration processes. This milestone reflects Oman’s dedication to fostering innovation and aligning with international efforts to protect intellectual property rights globally. — ONA
