THE HAGUE: The Sultanate of Oman participated in the 26th meeting of national authorities of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention, held at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) headquarters in the Netherlands.

The Omani delegation, led by Minister Plenipotentiary Aqeel bin Alawi Ba Omar, Deputy Head of the Department of Global Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, and Deputy Chairman of the National Authority for Implementation of the Agreement, engaged in discussions on strengthening national authorities' capacities, advancing technical cooperation, and implementing preventive measures against dual-use chemicals.

The meeting also provided a platform to exchange successful experiences in chemical security and safety. Oman's participation underscores its commitment to global efforts toward a world free of chemical weapons and to supporting OPCW's mission for global security and peace.

The delegation further focused on enhancing international cooperation to reduce chemical weapons proliferation, ensuring compliance with international standards, and reviewing the progress of Convention implementation while strengthening global partnerships. The delegation included representatives from Oman’s Foreign Ministry and the Environment Authority. — ONA
