BARKA: The fourth race of the 22nd edition of the annual camel races for the 2024-2025 season will conclude on Monday after four days of thrilling competition within 89 rounds in the wilayat of Barka.


The event was supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY) and organised by the Oman Camel Racing Federation (OCRF) in cooperation with the Royal Camel Corps (RCC).


The first day, Friday, featured 25 rounds dedicated to the ‘Hagayeg’ category - two-year-old camels competing over a distance of 3 km.


The second day featured 13 rounds dedicated to the ‘Hagayeg’ category over a distance of 4 km, in addition to three rounds for human riders over a 2-km distance.


The third day featured 8 rounds for the ‘Laqaya’ category, three-year-old camels, running 5 km in morning, and 17 rounds in the evening for 4 km.

In the morning competition, the top results were as follows. In the first place went to Rahya, owned by Hamood bin Abdullah al Muhroubi, followed by Al Tayara in second place, owned by Mohammed bin Said al Wahibi. Al Dana, also owned by Hamood bin Abdullah al Muhroubi, took third place.


The fourth and fifth positions went to Shawahin, owned by Hamad bin Salim al Madhoushi, and Haflah, owned by Hamood bin Sultan al Ghafili, respectively. In sixth place was Nasiya, owned by Badr bin Hamad al Junibi, while Al Dhariyat, owned by Saad bin Hamad al Junibi, came in seventh. Rounding out the top eight was Al Diplomasiya, owned by Mohammed bin Abid al Harsousi.


The final day will see 22 rounds, and includes 12 rounds for the ‘Al Ythaa’ category, four-year-old camels, racing 5 km in the morning; six rounds for the ‘Al Thanaya’ category, five-year-old camels, covering 6 km; and six rounds for the ‘Al Hawl’ category, camels over six years old, also running 6 km.
