Muscat, Nov 20

With the start of the National Day holiday, mountainous destinations like Al Jabal Al Akhdhar (Green Mountain) and Jabal Hatt are experiencing a surge in visitors, including families and young people looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of cities and shopping malls and immerse themselves in nature.

Camping has become a preferred option for those seeking a peaceful vacation away from the crowds and daily routines, as these areas offer a perfect setting to enjoy the pleasant weather and stunning views.

Al Jabal Al Akhdhar is a unique tourist spot located in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate and is part of Al Hajar Mountains. Standing at a height of up to 3,000 metres above sea level, it boasts a moderate climate year-round, providing a cool escape during the summer months.

The area is renowned for its variety of agricultural products, including pomegranates, peaches, apricots, walnuts, and roses used in producing the famous rose water.

Jabal Hatt, also known as the Eastern Mountain, is situated in the Wilayat of Al Hamra in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, approximately 200 kilometres from Muscat. Reaching an altitude of 2,000 metres above sea level, it attracts camping and adventure enthusiasts throughout the year. Access to the mountain top is possible via a four-wheel-drive road, requiring caution due to its varying slopes.

These locations are perfect for camping, allowing visitors to set up tents and enjoy tranquil nights under the starry sky. The mountains offer hiking and climbing trails for outdoor enthusiasts, along with opportunities to explore traditional mountain villages and learn about Omani rural life. Guests can also visit local farms to sample fresh fruits and discover cultivation methods.

Sulaiman al Amari, a frequent visitor to Jabal Hatt, notes, "Despite the beauty of the area and its stunning nature, it lacks tourist facilities and visitor services, such as public toilets and network connectivity in some areas."

Anas al Balushi confirms that Jabal Hatt is an excellent destination during this time of year, with its chilly nights providing a unique camping experience with friends around a campfire. He advises that the mountain is accessible by most vehicle types, but caution is necessary when descending to prevent brake issues on the steep roads.

Al Balushi mentioned that the increasing number of visitors to the mountain, evident from the traffic congestion on the routes leading to these destinations, reflects a growing interest in camping and nature exploration.

He also recommends visitors to prepare adequately by bringing essential supplies like warm clothing, practicing eco-friendly behaviours by disposing of waste properly and avoiding harm to plants and wildlife.

Additionally, checking the weather forecast, driving safely on mountain roads, and following general camping guidelines are essential for a safe and enjoyable experience.
