Commemorating the 54th National Day of the Sultanate of Oman, the Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) organised an awareness campaign entitled 'Elderly Health' with the aim of providing better care for the elderly in the country.

The event took place at The Village in Al Hail and involved resident doctors from the Emergency Medicine Programme, Orthopaedics, Family Medicine, and Psychiatry. These doctors provided medical consultations and health advice to enhance health awareness among the elderly and promote their well-being.

Dr Khalid al Balushi, a representative of the OMSB, stated, " Through this campaign, our goal is to raise awareness about the importance of preventive and therapeutic care for the elderly. We want to support their health by educating them on ways to prevent chronic diseases, especially on this special day as the country celebrates its 54th anniversary."

The campaign also aimed to encourage society to provide necessary support and care for the elderly, as well as promote healthy lifestyles for them. It targeted all members of society, including citizens, residents, and visitors, to spread awareness about the importance of supporting elderly health and encouraging the adoption of healthy habits.

Dr Al Balushi emphasised that these efforts align with the vision of the Oman Medical Specialty Board to improve the health environment in the community. The Board aims to achieve this through awareness campaigns that promote the provision of essential health and psychological care for the elderly, creating an integrated community that supports their health and ensures a healthy and safe life for them.

The campaign included various events and activities, such as health consultations on cardiac health, osteoporosis, and psychological issues like depression and Alzheimer's. Additionally, a medical examination corner was set up for measuring blood pressure, sugar levels, cholesterol, and haemoglobin, along with a first aid corner.
