Muscat: The upcoming long weekend can be seen as an opportunity to visit some unexplored places in the Sultanate with weather getting moderate and even cold in some governorates of the Sultanate.
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has identified the beaches and natural sites of Al Wusta Governorate, mountains, sand dunes and wadis of Burami, historical landmarks of South al Batinah, or the mountains meeting the sea in Musandam.
Travelers should also keep themselves updated with temperatures in local places as it can vary from region to region in the governorate.
Places to visit in Al Wusta governorate are the Arabian Oryx Sanctuary, the Rock Garden in Duqm, the Ras Madrakah or Barr al-Ḥikmān beach, and the pink lakes in Al Jazer.
In Buraimi, one can visit the Al-Hillah and Al-Khandaq forts, or discover Umm al Falaj and experience camping activity in Wadi Al-Qahfi camp.
The khareef may be over, but Dhofar is worth visiting in winter to places like the Itin Plain, Ain Garziz, Wadi Darbat, and Taqah Fort or Rakhyut Fort among others.
Places to visit in North al Batinah are the Suwaiq Fort, Wadi Al Jahour in Suwaiq, a four-wheel drive tour in Wadi al Hawasna in Khaburah or the Wadi al Hareem, and the Al Khaburah Fort. Other places include the Suhar Fort, the Sultan Qaboos Mosque, and the Shinas holidays.
A visit to Khasab by ferry from Shinas is an option to tap Bassa Beach, Telegraph Island, fishing in Lima, the Bukha fort, and the longest zipline in the world in Khasab
Much closer to the Sultanate, do not miss the Barka fort, Sawadi beach, some popular wadis and hot springs, the villages of Stal and Wakan, or the Bait Al Ghasham Museum.
