BAKU: The Sultanate of Oman showcased its commitment to climate resilience and sustainable development during the high-level ministerial session of COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The conference, which focused on green transformation and its role in combating climate change, witnessed active participation from Oman, represented by Dr Abdullah bin Ali al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority.
During his keynote address, Dr Al Amri highlighted Oman’s significant strides toward achieving a green economy. “Since joining the Global Green Economy Alliance, Oman has made substantial contributions to global efforts aimed at reducing emissions in key sectors such as energy, transportation, and industry,” he said.
The Sultanate of Oman’s initiatives align closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, emphasising renewable energy adoption, biodiversity preservation, and climate-resilient economic practices. Dr Al Amri also discussed Oman’s progress in implementing carbon neutrality policies, including the development of solar and wind energy projects across the country.
With 89 nations collaborating under the Global Green Economy Alliance, Oman’s participation at COP29 reinforced its role as a proactive player in addressing climate change challenges and fostering international partnerships to accelerate the transition to a sustainable future. — ONA
