The fourth edition of the Sea Championship 2024 began under the auspices of Shaikh Khalil bin Khalfan al Wahaibi, member of the Majlis Ash'shura representing the Wilayat of Muscat at the Ittifaq Yiti Sports Stadium on November 7.
The event was also attended by Ibrahim bin Ahmed al Maimani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sea Sports Team, Engineer Saeed al Hadi, Shaikh Majid al Kiyumi and Sameh bin Salem al Wahaibi, and a number of members of the Municipal Council in the Wilayat and supporters of the championship, in addition to the heads of the sports teams in the Wilayat of Muscat.
As many as 16 teams are participating in the championship, namely, Al Bahr, Shabab Al Murtafaat, Bandar Al Khairan, Shabab Qantab, Tunis, Ittihad Al Amerat, Husn Al Sifah, Muscat, Amjad Yiti, Al Salam, Al Hilal, Al Wehda, Shabab Yankat, Sahel Oman, Saih Al Dhabi and Qantab.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Shaikh Khalil bin Khalfan al Wahaibi expressed his thanks to the organisers, stressing that this championship enhances relations and communication between young people and supports brotherhood ties between teams, hoping that the tournament will achieve its goals in supporting sports.
“The Sea Championship, which is Oman’s very own test of the best team, aims to enhance consistency and familiarity between the participating sports teams, and highlight the sporting and artistic aspects of these teams,” Al Wahaibi said.
The tournament is played in a group system, as it consists of four groups: Group ‘A’ includes the teams of Al Bahr, Shabab Al Murtafaat, Bandar Al Khairan, and Tunis, and Group ‘B’ includes the teams of Shabab Qantab, Ittihad Al Amerat, Husn Al Sifah, and Muscat. Group ‘C’ includes the teams of Amjad Yiti, Al Salam, Al Hilal, and Al Wehda, while Group ‘D’ includes the teams of Shabab Yankat, Sahil Oman, Saih Al Dhabi, and Qantab.
The opening day witnessed two matches in Group ‘A’, where Al Bahr Sports Team met the Shabab Al Murtafaat Sports Team in a competitive match that ended with the victory of the Shabab Al Murtafaat Team with a score of 2-1. The second match brought together the Bandar Al Khairan Team and the Tunis Team, where Bandar Al Khairan managed to win with a score of 2-1 as well.
