MUSCAT: Dr Mohammed bin Said al Maamari, Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, met with Shaikh Dr Mohammed Al Maamoun Al Qasimi Al Hassani, Minister of State and Dean of the Great Mosque of Algiers in the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, in Muscat Governorate to discuss strengthening bilateral relations.

Their conversation focused on enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the fields of endowments and religious affairs, with an emphasis on the role of mosques in fostering intellectual and spiritual growth within societies.

The two leaders highlighted the significance of exchanging expertise, experiences and research in these areas, particularly in developing the mosque as a cultural centre that promotes tolerance, coexistence and community cooperation, while reinforcing a moderate Islamic identity that advocates for unity and peace.

Shaikh Dr Al Qasimi expressed his admiration for the Omani experience in managing endowments and religious affairs, particularly the development of systems that support this process. He praised the role of mosques in Oman, not only as places of worship but also as centres of education and awareness, contributing to the formation of generations rooted in their values and heritage. He noted the efforts of Omani mosques in fostering a culture of peace and understanding across different cultures.

He further emphasised Algeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties by learning from Oman’s experience and enhancing the role of mosques in promoting social cohesion and stability.

Both sides agreed on the importance of continued meetings and fruitful cooperation in the fields of endowments, with a shared goal of developing the mosque as an institution that serves as a pillar of civilisation. They expressed their hopes for establishing strategic partnerships that will benefit both countries, strengthen fraternal relations and lay the foundation for a rich exchange of cultural and civilisational ideas. – ONA
