MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology announced that a total of 1,728 jobs have been created in various specializations in the communications and information technology sector between January and September of this year.
The jobs included 33 professions distributed in leadership and specialized and technical positions in the communication and IT sector. Omani nationals got 80 per cent of the jobs and the remaining 20 per cent went to expatriates.
The ministry’s efforts to boost Omanization have resulted in a significant increase in the number of Omanis landing jobs in the the communications and information technology sector with the Omani workforce in the sector increasing from 49.71 per cent in 2023 to 62.02 per cent in 2024, while the percentage of expatriates workforce in the sector dropped to 37.98 per cent during the same period.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology is endeavouring through the National Initiative for Digital capabilities Development (Makeen), to build capacities in the field of communications and information technology. The initiative has contributed to the employment of approximately 226 Omanis since its launch in September 2022.
