Muscat: Majlis Ash’shura, which reviewed the achievements for the first annual session of the tenth term, stated that media plays pivotal role in conveying it's vision and goals to the society.
Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of the Majlis Ash’shura, highlighted the efforts made in the laws referred to the Majlis, notably the "Media Law". Through this law, the Majlis Ash’shura aimed to meet the aspirations of the media and media professionals by emphasising the importance of effective community participation and the ongoing partnership between the two parties.
Al Maawali stressed the pivotal role of the media in conveying the Majlis Ash’shura vision and goals to society. He also explained the Majlis Ash’shura supervisory role in monitoring economic sectors and national services in alignment with its competencies and responsibilities.
Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed al Nadabi, Secretary-General of the Majlis Ash’shura, reviewed the achievements, emphasising that the current period (2023-2027) represents a crucial national stage in the Majlis Ash’shura's journey.
He stressed the importance of the annual statement issued by the Majlis Ash’shura after each session as a pivotal mechanism for communicating with Omani society, enhancing transparency, and clarifying achievements and work in legislation and follow-up areas.
Committee heads also reviewed the most important achievements and work during the 1st term of the 10th term. Committees included Legislative and Legal Committee, Economic and Financial Committee, Health and Social Committee, Education, Scientific Research and Innovation Committee, Services and Public Facilities Committee, Youth and Human Resources Committee, Media, Tourism and Culture Committee, and Food and Water Security Committee.
Statistics revealed that during the first term, the Majlis Ash’shura held 12 regular sessions, discussed four ministerial statements, received 20 projects referred by the government, answered 38 questions, issued four urgent statements, and received 15 requests for briefing.
Additionally, 89 topics in various sectors were completed, with 121 meetings held to follow up on various issues. Nine draft laws referred by the government were included, addressing a range of topics such as the protection of bank deposits, regulating trade in wild animals, media regulations, and more.
The job-seekers file was a significant topic of discussion, with the interim committee focusing on providing a comprehensive vision based on analysing skills in the labour market and market needs.
The committee also reviewed education and vocational training policies to address challenges in the labour market and employment in the Sultanate of Oman.
The importance of follow-up tools and the government's responses to the Majlis Ash’shura’s reports and inquiries were also discussed, highlighting the level of interaction with these tools.
