KHASAB: The Musandam Governorate on Monday celebrated the welcoming of the first cruise ship of the winter season, marking the beginning of a vibrant tourist period. Arriving from Dubai, UAE, and en route to Muscat, the vessel brought 638 tourists and 1,180 crew members from around the world.
The welcoming programme showcased Musandam's rich heritage, featuring traditional performances and an exhibition spotlighting local artisans, productive families, and small businesses. The visiting passengers enjoyed a curated tour that highlighted Musandam's top historical and scenic attractions, including Khasab Fort, archaeological landmarks, and traditional dhow boat excursions to the marine islands. Beach visits along Musandam’s pristine coastline further enhanced the experience.
Ahmed bin Mohammed al Kamzari of Musandam’s Department of Heritage and Tourism noted, “Cruise ships during the ‘Musandam Winter’ season play a crucial role in diversifying our income sources and strengthening the local economy. This influx fosters tourism investment and helps promote Musandam’s natural beauty and Omani heritage on a global stage.”
Khasab Port anticipates receiving around 46 cruise ships during the 2024-2025 season. Last season saw 52 cruise ships and welcomed 76,156 tourists, underscoring Oman’s appeal as a premier cruise destination with its strategic maritime location along the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea, Sea of Oman, and the Arabian Gulf. — ONA
