Muscat: Dhofar Club achieved a significant victory over Saham Club by 83-21 in their match at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in the Wilayat of Bausher, as part of the 2024-2025 Oman Basketball League. Dhofar started the match strongly, as they scored 26 points without Saham being able to score any points. The start was successful for Ibrahim al Muqbali and Abdulrahman al Balushi, who presented a remarkable performance and contributed to imposing the rhythm in favour of Dhofar, in addition to Walid al Hattali, Zayed al Balushi and Ahmed Abu Hamar, who scored successive points and contributed to widening the gap early on. Saham suffered from a loss of focus and were unable to exploit the opportunities, so the first quarter ended with Dhofar’s superiority with a score of 26-0.
In the second quarter, Dhofar continued their strong performance, with Ahmed al Wahaibi and Mohammed al Musalhi scoring 4 points at the start of the quarter, deepening the gap further. With Saham trying to close the gap, they managed to score 4 points after two shots from under the basket by Mehad al Sulaimi and Nasr al Battashi. Despite this, Dhofar maintained their performance, with Mohammed al Mahri adding two points for his team to bring the score to 34-4, before Zayed al Balushi and Riyadh al Jahouri returned to add new points, ending the first half with a comfortable lead for Dhofar by 42-8.
Dhofar entered the third quarter with greater strength, as their players continued to control the course of the match. Ibrahim al Muqbali and Abdulrahman al Shibli managed to score 6 points through precise three-point shots, while Saham responded with limited attempts that resulted in 4 points through Younis al Amri and Sulaiman al Ghazali. Dhofar players did not stop increasing the lead, as Waleed al Hattali and Abdulrahman al Shibli added 4 points after accurate shots, which widened the gap further to end the third quarter at 56-17.
In the last quarter, Dhofar completed their dominance as they scored through Zayed al Balushi and Ibrahim al Muqbali by adding 6 points to raise the score to 62-17. Successive scoring from Mohammed al Mahri, Abdulrahman al Shibli and Riyadh al Jahouri enabled Dhofar to end the match with a big margin of 83-21.
The match was officiated by international referee Thani al Khilasi as the first referee, international referee Wafa al Samri as the second, and Ghalib al Hasani as the third. The table team included Shareefa al Zadjali, Rayan al Dubayni and Muneera al Ammani.
