Oman commemorates its 54th National Day on November 18. It is time to take stock but not to rest on our laurels. This occasion not only serves as a reminder of the nation’s rich history and cultural heritage but also highlights the remarkable achievements made under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. The month of November thus becomes a time for reflection on progress, unity, and future aspirations.

Hence, the tone for this celebration emphasises a new approach to governance that strengthens collaboration among various state institutions. The integration between these institutions is seen as vital for implementing strategies that benefit citizens and enhance national development.

This approach underscores a commitment to partnership in shaping Oman’s present and future, which is essential for sustaining development and safeguarding national achievements. And if we talk about the achievements, the list is endless.

In October last year, Oman conducted its Majlis Ash’shura Council’s 10th-term elections, marking a significant milestone in democratic participation. For the first time, citizens voted using the “Antakhib” electronic app, which showcases advancements in technology and electoral processes within the country.

A key achievement highlighted during this period is the promulgation of the Social Protection Law. This law aims to provide adequate insurance coverage for various segments of society, ensuring that all citizens can lead dignified lives.

These programmes offer cash benefits to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, people with disabilities, orphans, and widows.

Additionally, family income support and social insurance programmes address issues related to disability, death, work-related injuries, maternity leave, and job security. Such initiatives are crucial for enhancing societal well-being and reflect an understanding of diverse community needs. Education remains at the forefront of Oman’s development agenda as articulated in Oman Vision 2040. The emphasis on education as a cornerstone for national growth is evident through ongoing efforts to improve educational standards and access across all levels.

By linking educational curricula with economic growth requirements, Oman aims to prepare its youth for future challenges while fostering innovation and scientific advancement.

The Royal philosophy regarding education recognises it as foundational not only for individual success but also for societal progress. By investing in education and research capabilities, Oman seeks to cultivate competitive human resources capable of contributing meaningfully to both local and global contexts.

In 2024, the Ministry of Labour (MoL) introduced comprehensive labour market regulations designed to bolster Omanisation in the private sector. The achievements related to Omanisation in 2024 reflect a robust commitment by the Omani government to enhance local employment opportunities through strategic regulations, financial incentives, and rigorous compliance monitoring mechanisms.

These efforts are expected not only to increase the number of employed Omani citizens but also contribute positively to the overall economy by fostering a more skilled workforce aligned with national development goals.

As November unfolds with celebrations surrounding Oman’s National Day, it serves as an opportunity to reflect on past accomplishments while looking forward to future endeavours underpinned by unity and collective effort.

The achievements made thus far highlight Oman’s commitment to sustainable development across various sectors — governance, social welfare, education — and set a promising trajectory toward realising its vision for 2040.
