What is the role of the National Records Centre?

Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on Sunday issued Royal Decree No 51/2024 that established the National Records Centre and defined its prerogatives.


The National Records Centre will be established within the organizational structure of the Royal Oman Police and all allocations, assets, rights, obligations, and origins of the national records at the Electronic Census of Population, Housing, and Establishments 2020 Project shall be transferred to the National Records Centre.


Employees of the Electronic Census of Population, Housing, and Establishments 2020 Project shall be transferred to the National Records Centre, along with their financial grades.


The Inspector-General of Police and Customs shall issue the regulations and decisions necessary for the implementation of the provisions of this decree.


What is the role of the National Records Centre?


The Centre will be responsible for managing national databases within a unified framework and will collect, update, and integrate databases of individuals, establishments, and housing, which contributes to building an integrated national database that meets the needs of governmental and private institutions.


The center's tasks include linking data between various government agencies and some private institutions, which enhances the quality of data and ensures its compatibility with international standards.


The center aims to establish a unified national database and provide a comprehensive database for all administrative records in the Sultanate of Oman, which enhances the integration of information and ease of access to it.


It aims to preserve and manage records according to international standards by following international frameworks and standards in managing records, which ensures the accuracy and integrity of data and ease of circulation.


The Center will contribute to verifying the accuracy and validity of administrative records, which ensures avoiding duplication and reduces potential errors in the data.


The center is considered an essential part of the Sultanate of Oman’s digital transformation plan, as it contributes to accelerating the digitization process and organizing data in line with Vision 2040.


The center provides accurate and unified data to all concerned parties, which facilitates making government decisions based on reliable information.


It will provide the necessary data to government and private entities, which contributes to enhancing the decision-making process and achieving development goals.
