Al RUSTAQ/Al BURAIMI: The Al Batinah South Education Department wrapped up its robotics, scientific innovations and drones competitions, marking the end of a three-day event at the Directorate-General of Education in Al Batinah South Governorate. Students from grades 5 to 12 across all schools in the governorate took part and attracted over 500 participants in 224 teams. The event included competitions in student scientific innovations, the ‘Sumo’ robot contest, and drone operations.

Khalil bin Mohammed al Luwaihi, Head of the Innovation and Scientific Olympiad Department, noted that these competitions serve as a local qualifier for the Student Scientific Innovation Competition and the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Competition, allowing winning teams to advance to the ministry level. Successful projects will compete in the National Olympiad for Scientific Innovation, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, to be held in December at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre. Al Luwaihi added that the winning projects will receive ongoing support to help refine students’ skills and talents for further national-level competitions.

The robotics, scientific innovations and drones competitions in Al Buraimi Governorate concluded with students competing at the Al Buraimi Education Department. This year’s qualifiers included 28 teams in robotics, divided into three age categories. Winners from each category will represent Al Buraimi at the Sultanate-level competition.

In addition, 38 scientific innovation projects from different schools vied for top spots across four competition centres at the national level. These events provide students with an opportunity to showcase their skills and creativity in fields such as programming, robotics and AI. Besides technical development, the competition encourages a spirit of healthy competition and fosters an environment that supports innovation in modern technologies. Both events in Al Batinah South and Al Buraimi demonstrate Oman’s commitment to fostering scientific inquiry, creativity and technological advancements among students across Oman. - ONA
