Muscat: The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth (MCSY) has announced the first edition of (Raneen) contemporary art event, which will take place between November 21 and 30 in the historic town of Muttrah in the capital.

Thirteen local artists, seven international artists, and eight solo musicians will perform at three venues for ten days.

Sayyid Saeed al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, said, "The Sultanate of Oman has a distinguished and rich record in art events and exhibitions, and the events at Muttrah also include important contemporary art exhibitions and artists' studios. The ministry takes pride in continuing to highlight these connections through (Raneen), preserving our intangible cultural heritage, and embracing local and international artists."

The Raneen event aims to have a contemporary interpretation of the architectural heritage, reflect the unique character of the city and its importance in Oman, and revive the sites in the Wilayat of Muttrah through visual and audio.

About Muttrah

Muttrah has been the center of trade in Oman and hosts the popular cruise port, besides the Muttrah Souq and Muttrah Fort which are visited by thousands of tourists.

According to Lonely Planet, "Mutrah stretches along an attractive corniche of latticed buildings and mosques; it looks spectacular at sunset when the light casts shadows across the serrated crescent of mountains, while pavements, lights, and fountains invite an evening stroll."
