Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Türkiye have signed a MoU aimed at bolstering cooperation in higher education.

The agreement, signed in Ankara, paves the way for expanded exchanges in scholarships and academic programmes, mutual recognition of higher education institutions, and enhanced collaboration in scientific research and technology transfer between the two nations.

The memorandum was signed by Dr Rahma al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, and Dr. Erol Ozvar, Chairman of Turkey's Council of Higher Education.

The agreement covers various areas including fostering joint research and innovation programmes, developing future skills for the labour market, and promoting investments in technological advancements and innovation hubs.

The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from both countries’ educational institutions to discuss actionable steps to activate the memorandum.

Among the recommendations were initiatives to increase the number of scholarships, promote student exchanges, support the teaching of Arabic and Turkish languages, and establish twinning programmes for educational institutions in both countries.

A significant outcome will be the Omani-Turkish Knowledge Dialogue Forum, to be held in Muscat, which will bring together educators and researchers to explore further avenues of collaboration.
