Skill development facility for the blind opens

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Education (MoE) inaugurated the motor skills hall at Omar bin Al Khattab Institute for the Blind, sponsored by Petroleum Development Oman. The event was held under the auspices of the Director-General of the Directorate-General of Special Education and Continuous Learning, Dr Thuraiya al Rashdi.


Khalid al Rawahi, Director of Omar bin Al Khattab Institute for the Blind, said: “We appreciate the vital role of the private sector in contributing to society, especially to the educational institutions. PDO provided computers for students at Omar bin Al Khattab Institute for the Blind. through these initiatives, we seek to develop the students’ technical skills by creating students’ companies supervised by a capable teaching staff through granting them entrepreneurship skills. This cooperation guarantees providing a mixture of environments between education and talent, shaping a student capable of building the country by utilising the skills and techniques received at Omar bin Al Khattab Institute for the Blind."


The ceremony included a welcoming segment presented by students of Omar bin Al Khattab institute which are supervised by Halimah al Muqbali, assistant director at the institute, along with a visual display regarding Individual Skills and Guidance Hall by Nawal al Kindi, English Language teacher at the institute. The ceremony also included accompanying exhibition showcasing most important students’ companies at the institute.


Omar bin Al Khattab Institute for the Blind seeks to open an individual skills hall and career guidance to enable the visually impaired students, enhancing their societal contributions, talents and art training, rising a generation to utilise their skills and constructing their own companies.
