MUSCAT: The Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) is actively participating in the Sur Book Fair 2024, held in the Wilayat of Sur, Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, from October 27 to November 2.
Through its various segments and events, the ministry aims to strengthen community partnerships and foster collaboration between government institutions, the private sector, and civil society.
The ministry's pavilion features several initiatives, including the Development Cinema, which showcases visual content on key issues and studies relevant to the ministry's work. Visitors can access information about these studies and books through digital scanning codes, complemented by media coverage of the ministry's activities at the fair.
Noura al Subhi, Director of the Department of Social Studies at MoSD, emphasised the importance of participation in the fair: “Our involvement aims to promote community engagement, encourage cultural mobility, and raise awareness about the ministry’s services and efforts towards beneficiary groups.”
The Sur Book Fair features around 20 publishing houses and libraries from Oman and abroad, along with ten government institutions. Over 39 cultural programmes will take place, including competitions, seminars, dialogue sessions, and displays of youth talents, folk arts, and literary spaces.
The ministry is showcasing its latest electronic services and sustainable book initiative, 'In Order to Give the Book a New Life,' which connects donors with active entities in the reading community. It is also supporting the 'Let's Read' library initiative by Dar Al Atta Association and launching a children’s tourism development competition to spotlight Sur’s selection as the Arab Tourism Capital of the year.
The fair aims to invigorate the cultural and intellectual scene across governorates, enriching the social fabric and advancing social development goals.
