Omani Indian classical music fusion begins on Oct 24

An ensemble of Omani and Indian classical music will be showcased at the Indian Art and Music festival called ‘Sangeethotsav’ to be held for 3 Days from October 24 to 26, at the College of Banking and Financial Studies, from 6.30 pm until 10 pm, aiming at enriching the strong inter-cultural ties between both the communities of India and Oman, according to Ekata Muscat, a group of music aficionados that provide a platform for classical music.


The festival that not only celebrates the rich musical heritage of Oman but also encourages collaboration and community among musicians, will host ‘Sangeetharchana’, from 9.30 am – 4.00 pm on the first day while on the following days, the venue will see hundreds of Omani talents performing their regional as well as classical music of Oman.


On the first day, the event will kick off with a live vocal concert by Vasudha Ravi, who is an acclaimed Carnatic musician. Edappaly Ajithkumar on Violin, Payyanur Govinda Prasad on Mukharshangh, Vazhapally Krishnakumar on Mridangam, and Vishnu V Kammath on Ghanchira will accompany her.


On the second day of the festival, a grand celebration of music that features a diverse array of performances, highlighting both established and emerging talents from the region. With its focus on fostering creativity and promoting cultural exchange, Sangeetharchana has become a significant event in the local artistic landscape, drawing audiences and participants alike.


On the third day, a captivating Hindustani concert featuring an exceptional lineup of artistes will offer a treat to the senses of the audience as the concert will showcase the vocal talents of prominent musicians like Yash Devle, accompanied by Zuber Shaikh on sitar, Dwijj Gandharva on tabla and on Vineeth Pandit on harmonium. This ensemble promises to deliver an unforgettable evening of soulful music and rich cultural heritage.


On the sidelines of the event, Ekata Muscat will confer the ‘Sangeetha Sudha Nidhi’ Award on Thichur Surendran, who has been performing and training hundreds in Panchavadyam for the last over 30 years in Oman.
