The first encounter with Al Khushil Cave is nothing short of mesmerizing. Nestled near the village of Hail Al Hareem in the Wilayat of Dima Watayeen, this cave welcomes adventurers with an awe-inspiring entrance that hints at the wonders within.

Photographer and adventurer Riyadh Al Hinai, one of the first to descend into Al Khushil Cave, described the journey as both thrilling and treacherous.
“The cave is incredibly deep, with a watercourse known as the ‘Impossible Mission’ because of how difficult it becomes to cross when water levels rise after rain,” Al Hinai explained.
“But despite the obstacles, it was an unforgettable experience. We were mesmerized by the cave’s beauty and the refreshing coolness of its water pools.”
Discovering new wonders
Oman’s geographical location bestows upon it a landscape rich in various land formations that set it apart in the Middle East. The rugged mountains, steep cliffs, and deep valleys create an ideal environment for cave formations.
The team of volunteers and explorers collaborated with the Omani Caves Exploration Team with a mission to map the previously untouched caves around Hail Al Hareem. Their work unearthed three new caves, each named after local dialect terms used by villagers to describe these hidden mountain openings. Despite being known for generations, these caves had never been fully explored.
Al Khushil Cave, the crown jewel of these discoveries, reaches an impressive depth of 400 meters, while Al Naqah and Al Faqa’ offer unique exploration experiences, each with their own distinct challenges and stunning features.
Al Naqah Cave, while known to local villagers, is another marvel that beckons the curious. Its dramatic 25-meter vertical entrance leads to a network of fissures and tranquil pools, exploring which offers a sense of tranquillity while surrounded by nature.
Likewise, Al Faqa’ Cave, located a mere half-kilometre northeast of Hail Al Hareem, presents a technical challenge for seasoned explorers. Its stunning natural deposits represent both a risk and a reward.
