MUSCAT: The Governorate of Muscat will soon host the inaugural International Conference in Vector Control Intervention for Dengue Fever, which is being organised by Muscat Municipality in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The two-day conference will take place under the auspices of Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidy, Governor of Muscat, at the JW Marriott Hotel Muscat on October 29 and 30. It will include an exhibition featuring companies specialising in pest control solutions.

The event will bring together around 180 experts and specialists from various countries, including representatives from the GCC, Egypt, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Oman. International speakers from WHO, US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other global health organisations will also participate. Discussions will focus on the latest research and strategies to combat Aedes mosquitoes, the primary vector of dengue fever. Participating delegations will exchange insights and best practices, leading to a set of recommendations for effective vector control.

The conference aims to foster cooperation and knowledge exchange by showcasing national experiences in managing dengue fever and combating disease vectors. A key objective is to enhance the national capacities of participating countries by exploring the latest technologies and scientific advancements in vector control. The conference will also promote the "Integrated Vector Management" (IVM) approach, which combines technical, environmental, and regulatory methods for sustainable pest control.

An accompanying exhibition will provide pest control companies with a platform to showcase their latest solutions and technologies, encouraging networking and knowledge exchange. The event will attract a diverse audience, including academics, researchers, public health experts, and industry professionals, with the shared goal of unifying global efforts to control disease vectors and reduce their impact on public health.

Muscat Municipality, through this initiative, aims to strengthen national efforts in combating disease vectors and curbing the spread of dengue fever across the Sultanate. This reflects the Municipality’s commitment to safeguarding public health and advancing innovative, effective strategies to address environmental and health challenges.
