Omani women in the field of culture, literature feted

Under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Social Development (MoSD), celebrated Omani Women's Day with a ceremony in the field of culture, literature and manuscripts. The aim was to highlight the cultural and literary contributions of Omani women on national, regional, and international platforms.


The ceremony included honouring 30 pioneering Omani female figures and a visual display showcasing the role of Omani women in culture and literature, particularly in poetry, novels, theatre, and manuscripts.


A special publication titled "Omani Women: A 100-Year Journey of Giving" was announced to document the efforts of women who have contributed to Oman's progress since the era of the Renaissance.

Fatima al Hosni, Director of the Omani Encyclopaedia at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY), emphasised the government's support for Omani women in various cultural events, both locally and internationally. Omani women have excelled in literature, poetry, and art, winning accolades and contributing to the preservation of Omani manuscript heritage.


Makiya al Kamzari, a linguistic and educational researcher, highlighted the significance of celebrating Omani Women's Day in the realm of culture and literature. She stated that women play a crucial role in shaping cultural identity and are essential to the fabric of literature with its historical manuscripts.

Raya al Hajri, Assistant Director of the Department of Organisations and International Cooperation at the National Records and Archives Authority, emphasised the role of culture in preserving Arab identity and fostering international relations. She noted that women have been instrumental in this cultural exchange throughout history.


Overall, celebrating Omani Women's Day underscores the community's commitment to empowering women in all aspects of society. By recognising and supporting women in the cultural and literary fields, Oman is paving the way for comprehensive and sustainable development alongside men.


The experiences of Omani women in culture and literature have been successful and commendable, with many receiving awards at regional and international levels.


Maryam al Kharboushi, Director of Cultural Identity at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY), highlighted the importance of literature, culture and manuscripts in societal growth and development.
