Oman shines at Photographic World Cup

JINAN, CHINA: The Sultanate of Oman has won a number of awards and honourary medals in the first edition of the “1st Universities & Academies Photographic World Cup”, whose winners were honoured at a ceremony held on Thursday in the city of Jinan, China, in the presence of the President of the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP).


The National University of Science and Technology won second place among world universities and academic institutions.


Maria bint Mohammed al Rahbiyah (Sultan Qaboos University) took second place at the individual level among students from various world universities and academic institutions.


Al Waleed al Amri (Sultan Qaboos University) and Nawf al Siyabi (University of Technology and Applied Sciences) also received medals of appreciation from the FIAP.

Certificates of appreciation were also awarded to the following: Ru’aa al Shueili, Ahmed al Shehhi, Mohammed al Shueili (University of Technology and Applied Sciences), Sura al Ghatrifi and Maather al Ghatrifi (National University of Science and Technology), Rashid al Naabi (German University of Technology), Saleh al Khadhouri (Middle East College) and Wahab al Kindi (Sultan Qaboos University).


FIAP named winners at university level as follows: (1) Bengal Academy of Photography, (2) National University of Science and Technology from the Sultanate of Oman and (3) Padang Panjak Academy of Arts of Indonesia.


At the individual level, first place went to Sri Lankan photographer Isora Nimantha, while Omani photographer Maria bint Mohammed al Rahbiyah from Sultan Qaboos University bagged second prize, followed in the third place by Iranian photographer Arash Kaki. — ONA
