Belarus PM visits National Museum and Royal Opera House Muscat

MUSCAT: Roman Golovchenko, Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, and his accompanying delegation on Monday visited the National Museum within the framework of his current visit to the Sultanate of Oman.


The Belarusian prime minister and his accompanying delegation took a tour around the museum and were briefed about its exhibits that highlight the cultural heritage of the Sultanate of Oman since the early human settlements to the present day.


During his tour of the Maritime History Hall, the prime minister was shown manuscripts documenting the Omani fleet during the reign of Sultan Said bin Sultan Al Busaidi in Muscat and Zanzibar and viewed discoveries from the wreckage of a sunken ship of Vasco da Gama’s fleet.



The prime minister also toured the various halls of the museum which highlight important aspects of the history and civilization of the Sultanate of Oman most notably the Hall of Civilizational Achievement, the Hall of Aflaj, the Hall of Prehistory and Ancient Times, the Hall of the Greatness of Islam, and the Hall of Oman and the World.


He visited the corner of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimur in the Renaissance Hall, and reviewed the original letter pinned by the late Sultan and addressed to Their Highnesses the members of the Royal Family Council through the Defence Council. He also visited the Al Busaid family section and viewed a set of Royal possessions including gifts presented to the late Sultan by leaders of brotherly and friendly countries.



During the visit, the guest watched a short visual display at the cinema hall entitled ‘Oman, the Pearl of the East in the Land of Hope’. Jamal bin Hassan al Mousawi, Secretary-General of the National Museum, presented a visual display summarizing the cultural and museum cooperation between the National Museum and the Belarusian side.



The prime minister of the republic of Belarus, also visited the Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM), toured its premises, and listened to a briefing on its sections, facilities, as well as the performances, seasons and programmes. He was introduced to the equipment of ROHM that are among the most modern used in the field of international musical performances. During his tour, he was briefed on the architectural richness of the ROHM engineering design which combines traditional Omani heritage and modern architectural designs. — ONA
