Junior Basketball League kicks off with wins for Nizwa, Masirah

MUSCAT: The Junior Basketball League for the 2024-2025 season kicked off with preliminary round competitions held at Al Amal and Al Seeb clubs, showcasing two notable victories for Nizwa and Masirah clubs.


Nizwa triumphed over Sohar with a massive score of 71-6, while Masirah secured an exciting win over Salalah with a score of 42-36.


In the first match, Nizwa dominated the game against Sohar, excelling both offensively and defensively. Nizwa quickly opened the scoring through a successful shot by Mulhem al Obaidani under the basket, followed by a three-pointer from Mohammed al Busaidi.

The attacks continued with Adam al Hinai and Mulhem al Obaidani each scoring two more three-pointers, ending the first quarter with Nizwa leading 30-2.


The control continued as Nizwa added 7 more points in the second quarter, with Sohar unable to respond, finishing the first half at 37-2. In the third quarter, Nizwa scored 19 points against Sohar's 2, and the dominance persisted until the end of the game, with Nizwa winning 71-6.


The match was officiated by Taha al Amri as the first referee, Hussain al Awaimri as the second, and Said al Ghamari as the third. On the scoring table were Jumaa al Hinai, Ryan al Dhahoubi and Fatima al Harthi.

In the second match, Masirah achieved a hard-fought victory over Salalah, winning 42-36. The game was balanced between the two teams, with Salalah having the advantage in the first quarter, starting with a score by Fahad Bait Singoor, followed by two points from his team-mate Mishal Akak.


Masirah responded with two points from Khuzaymah al Shibli, bringing the score to 2-4. Both teams continued to exchange points, with the first quarter ending with Salalah leading Masirah 7-3. Salalah maintained their lead in the first half, finishing 21-17. In the third quarter, both teams scored 7 points each, with Salalah holding a 28-24 lead.


However, in the fourth quarter, Masirah put on a strong performance, overturning the score by adding 18 points compared to Salalah’s 8, clinching the win 42-36.


The match was refereed by Ali al Salmani as the first referee, Thabet al Hinai the second, and Said al Ghamari as the third. On the scoring table were Maryam al Zadjali, Moosa al Siyabi and Mahmoud al Ajmi.
