MUSCAT: The Omani Basketball Association (OBA), represented by the Referees Committee, organised a training course for new basketball referees at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher from October 11 to 13.
The course saw participation from referees across the Sultanate of Oman, including 8 new referees, under the supervision of a distinguished group of local and international lecturers, including local referee Ahmed al Khasbi and international referees Ahmed al Balushi and Issam al Siyabi.
Opening the course, Eng Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi, Chairman of Oman Basketball Association (OBA), emphasised the importance of the course within the framework of the association’s plans to develop the game and enhance the level of refereeing in Oman.
Al Naabi added that the course is part of efforts to qualify referees of both genders to serve as a key component in the national refereeing system, contributing to the development of the game locally. He urged the participants to make the most of the theoretical lectures and practical applications provided during the course.
The course included a series of theoretical lectures and practical training, with a focus on the latest international developments in basketball refereeing.
The event aims to prepare a new generation of referees in collaboration with clubs and the Ministry of Education. This course is part of the Referees Committee’s programme to enhance refereeing skills through organising courses and training camps both inside and outside Oman, in line with the game’s development and the increasing number of competitions, especially in youth categories.
The course presents a valuable opportunity for new referees to gain knowledge about the latest basketball regulations and practice applying them in real-life scenarios, while also allowing for the exchange of experiences with international referees participating in the course.
