SUHAR: The Majis waterfront project in Suhar, Al Batinah North Governorate, is going to transform the area into an active recreational hub, benefiting both locals and tourists. Covering a total area of 9,665 square metres in Majis, the project promises to enhance the city’s appeal by offering a mix of leisure, cultural and family-friendly facilities.

The key features of the development include a prayer and toilet block (170 sqm), a coffee shop (170 sqm), and several open spaces designed to cater to different age groups and interests.

Families will enjoy the family area and interactive children’s play area, while fitness enthusiasts can take advantage of the outdoor gym and volleyball court. The amphitheatre too will host events and performances, and the BBQ area will provide a spot for social gatherings.

For visitors looking for a quick bite, the food cabinet area adds to the convenience of this multi-purpose space.

Eng Waleed al Nabhani, Director of Projects at Al Batinah North Municipality, highlighted the project’s significance saying, "This development is not just about providing leisure spaces, but also about stimulating the local economy and boosting tourism. It meets our broader vision for urban development that enhances the quality of life for residents and attracts visitors to the governorate."

The project emphasises the role of public spaces in urban life, contributing to economic growth and making the governorate more attractive for both residents and tourists. As part of Al Batinah North Governorate’s ongoing efforts, this waterfront development is expected to be a key driver in elevating the city’s recreational and economic potential.

This project comes under the set of developmental projects that Al Batinah North presented and highlighted at the October conference. Such projects play a vital role in the well-being of citizens by providing spaces for leisure, social interaction and relaxation, which are essential for improving the quality of life. They are also essential for domestic tourism, attracting visitors from across the country and boosting the local economy.

By incorporating modern facilities and sustainable designs, these developments contribute to the creation of smart cities, where technology and infrastructure are integrated.

This will not only improves urban living standards, but also positions cities like Majis as destinations for both residents and tourists alike where such initiatives support long-termed economic growth and social life.
