SALALAH: The first edition of the Dhofar International Theatre Festival concluded at Al Murooj Theatre in Salalah, celebrating the artistic talents of over 350 participants from 50 countries.

Organised by Dhofar Municipality in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, the eight-day festival showcased a diverse array of theatrical performances across six different tracks, leaving a lasting cultural impact.

Under the patronage of Dr Abdullah bin Nasser Al Harrasi, Minister of Information, the closing ceremony included a visual presentation titled ‘Harvest of the First Session of the Dhofar International Theatre Festival,’ summarising the event’s highlights.

Following this, awards were presented to the best performances in categories like Grand Shows, Popular Theatre, Children’s Theatre, Street Theatre, and Monodrama, with Omani and international productions receiving recognition.

Ammar bin Obaid Ghawas, General Coordinator of the festival, emphasissed its role in fostering cultural exchange and dialogue among artists and audiences.

He noted that the festival’s workshops and performances served as a platform for sharing expertise in acting, directing, and theatrical improvisation. The event not only celebrated the richness of Omani and global theatrical culture but also aimed to boost cultural tourism in the Sultanate. - ONA
