MUSCAT: Omani artist Ali bin Hilal al Maamari recently represented the Sultanate of Oman, in the 10th Jordan International Fine Arts Forum which was held in the city of Al Salt in Al Balqa Governorate in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The event was held on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee celebration of King Abdullah bin Al Hussein’s accession to the throne.

Many fine artists from the region and beyond took part in the forum including the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Republic of Tunisia, the Republic of Algeria, the Republic of Lebanon, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Armenia in addition to a group of senior Jordanian artists.

On the sidelines of the forum, an exhibition was held that highlighted the works of the participating artists. The exhibition was opened under the patronage of Haifa Najjar, Jordanian Minister of Culture.

Speaking about his participation in the forum, Al Maamari expressed his happiness to represent Oman in this artistic forum. He says, “Such artistic events benefit artists through meeting his/her fellow artists with different cultural backgrounds and diverse artistic styles and methods. In such gatherings artists get the opportunity to hone their skills and artistic talents. The forum saw art workshops which brought together the artists under one roof to exchange ideas and artistic styles.”

Al Maamari added: “The forum gave me a chance to increase my list of artistic acquaintances and interact with other artists. Jordan is a brotherly country to the Sultanate of Oman. It has a distinguished heritage and its Arab traditions resemble our Omani traditions in many aspects. Jordanians are generous, hospitable, kind, and well-behaved people who respect and appreciate the visitor to their country. What attracted me the most was the traditional buildings of the city of Al Salt in Al Balqa Governorate. These buildings have a unique style, their walls are covered with golden yellow stones, their arched windows and the houses are terraced on the tops of the mountains.”
