MUSCAT: Asyad Group has officially commenced the construction of the Muscat Airport Free Zone, a strategic initiative aimed at transforming Oman into a global logistics and business hub. Located adjacent to Muscat International Airport, the free zone is designed to attract multinational corporations, financial institutions, start-ups, and logistics companies, offering a prime location for businesses seeking rapid access to international markets.

The initial phase of development will focus on building key infrastructure, including road networks, essential utilities, and public service facilities. In addition, the project will include the construction of an administrative complex, developed in partnership with the private sector. This infrastructure is expected to create a state-of-the-art business environment that caters to the needs of companies requiring fast and efficient logistical operations.

Faisal bin Ali al Balushi, Senior Manager of the Muscat Airport Free Zone, emphasized the strategic importance of the project: "This free zone is central to Asyad’s vision of making Oman a key player in the global logistics industry. It aligns with our efforts to boost economic growth and enhance Oman’s competitiveness under the goals of Oman Vision 2040."

One of the free zone’s key advantages is its close proximity to Muscat International Airport, enabling seamless integration with Asyad's logistics network, which links land, sea, and air transportation hubs across the country. The location is ideal for companies dealing with time-sensitive products such as pharmaceuticals, perishable goods, and e-commerce shipments. The free zone will also feature specialized facilities to support high-speed distribution, making it an attractive option for businesses reliant on air freight.

The project is expected to significantly boost foreign direct investment (FDI) by offering a range of incentives, including tax and customs exemptions. Asyad's comprehensive logistics network, along with Oman's strategic position at the crossroads of global trade routes, is expected to make the Muscat Airport Free Zone a competitive destination for international companies.

In addition to foreign investors, the project also presents opportunities for local businesses to scale their operations and expand into global markets. "This is a unique opportunity for Omani companies to leverage the infrastructure and logistical advantages offered by the free zone," said Al Balushi. "It will help local firms integrate into international supply chains, increasing their competitiveness on the global stage."

The free zone is also expected to contribute to Oman’s economic diversification efforts, creating job opportunities for Omanis and reducing the nation’s dependence on oil revenues. By focusing on sectors such as air cargo, logistics, and light manufacturing, the free zone will support the country's long-term economic development goals, as outlined in Oman Vision 2040.

As Asyad continues to collaborate with the private sector, the Muscat Airport Free Zone is set to become a central node in the global logistics industry, further strengthening Oman's position as a regional and international trade hub.
