Tropical depression to affect several governorates: Met

Muscat: The latest weather updates indicate the formation of a Tropical Depression over the southeast Arabian Sea centered at 66.5E and 16.0N, located 1,200 km away from Dhofar governorate coasts.


With chances of intensification to Deep Depression in the next three days.


Initial forecasts suggest that the tropical system may move westward towards the coasts of Dhofar governorate and the Gulf of Aden with a chance of cloud formation over Dhofar, Al Wusta, and South al Sharqiyah governorates.


There are chances of isolated rains and occasional thundershowers from Monday night, October 14.


The northern governorates will be affected by a trough of low pressure causing isolated showers over Muscat, South al Batinah, al Dakhiliyah, and North al Sharqiyah governorates.

Monday:


Cloud advection and formation with chances of varying intensity rain and occasional thunderstorms over the coastal areas of Dhofar, Al Wusta, and Dhofar governorates.


Expected impact:


• Rainfall between 10-20 mm may lead to the flow of some wadis.


• Fresh downdraft winds with speeds ranging between 15-20 knots (28-37 km/h).


• Decrease in horizontal visibility during thunderstorms and rising dust due to downdraft winds.


• Moderate sea along Arabian Sea coasts with a maximum height of 2.0 meters.


Tuesday:


Continuous cloud advection and formation with chances of varying intensity rain and occasional thunderstorms over Dhofar, Al Wusta, and Dhofar governorates, and governorates of Muscat, South Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, and North al Sharqiyah.


Expected impact


• Rainfall between 30 - 60 mm over Dhofar, Al Wusta, and Dhofar governorates, and 10 - 30 mm governorates of Muscat, South al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, and North al Sharqiyah. may lead to the flow of some wadies and flash floods.


Fresh downdraft winds with speeds ranging between 15-20 knots (28-37 km/h).


• Decrease in horizontal visibility during thunderstorms and rising dust due to downdraft winds. • Moderate sea along Arabian Sea coasts with a maximum height of 2.0 meters.


Wednesday
