Muscat: The National Defence College (NDC), Academy of Strategic and Defence Studies, hosted Christophe Farno, Ambassador of the European Union to the Sultanate of Oman.


Farno delivered a lecture titled “The European Union and its role in promoting peace and security in the Middle East (ME)”.


The lecture formed part of the curriculum of the 12th National Defence Course. It was attended by Rear Admiral Ali bin Abdullah al Shidi, Commandant of the National Defence College.


During the lecture, the guest spoke about a number of issues, most notably challenges and events prevailing in the Middle East region and their repercussions on the whole world. He underscored the geostrategic importance of the Middle East for the European Union. He laid emphasis on the significance of dialogue and peace talks within context of rapidly changing scenarios.


Farno also underlined the role of the Sultanate of Oman in the international arena and the country’s historical contribution to peace through mediation and promotion of the culture of communication among different peoples.


After the lecture, the guest replied to queries raised by attendees and participants in the 12th NDC course.


The lecture was attended by senior officers from the Sultan's Armed Forces (SAF), officers from military and security units, the NDC’s staff, the 12th National Defence Course candidates and representatives of civil departments. — ONA
