MUSCAT: The 8th Oman Fire, Security and Safety Exhibition 2024, organised by Muscat Expo Company, commenced at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, on October 8, 2024. Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), the main sponsor of the two-day 8th Oman Fire, Security and Safety Exhibition, delivered a presentation on their firefighting and rescue services. Company executives highlighted training programmes for emergencies in oil facilities and engaged with attendees at their dedicated booth located at the entrance, showcasing their commitment to safety advancements.

Speaking to the Observer during the event, Salah al Habsi, Head of the Fire Training Department at PDO, shared insights into PDO’s participation. “Our involvement in the 8th edition of OFSEC aims to share the firefighting and rescue services at PDO. The objective is to familiarise participants with the training programmes offered by the Firefighting and Rescue Services Department, represented by the Training Department,” he stated.

He explained that PDO provides 32 programmes in various firefighting and rescue specialties tailored for oil facilities. Additionally, they offer all Level 1 courses in health, safety, and the environment, accredited by the Oman Energy Association, in cooperation with the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulances. “We also deliver awareness courses for the local community residing in the concession areas,” Al Habsi added.

Shaikh Dr Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Chairman – OPAZ, underscored the importance of training human resources to leverage modern security and safety technologies. He noted the roles of the Royal Oman Police and the Ministry of Labour in setting standards for safety devices used within facilities, further emphasizing the priority of security and safety in Oman’s economic zones.

The exhibition highlights a strong community focus, with significant involvement from volunteer teams and young volunteers. It also features over 80 local and international companies from more than 20 countries, showcasing innovative solutions, technologies, and cost-effective products across sectors such as government, private enterprises, aviation, construction, transportation, manufacturing, oil and gas, and public utilities.
