SUR: As part of the executive programme for Sur, the Arab Tourism Capital for 2024, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MoHT), in cooperation with Muscat Yacht Club, is organising two training courses in open water and flood rescue in the Wilayat of Sur from October 6 to 10.
This initiative is part of a capacity-building programme aimed at empowering the local community in the tourism sector and workers in tourism establishments across various fields to enhance and develop the tourism sector.
The two training courses target 20 participants from the local community, with 10 young trainees receiving instruction on rescue skills in Wadi Shab. The course programme aims to equip trainees with the knowledge and skills related to rescue operations to reduce drowning incidents in floodwaters.
The second training course focuses on rescue skills in open water, targeting 10 young Omani trainees to train them on how to deal with open water and water currents, taking place at Khor Al Batah in Sur.
The training courses will be delivered by a group of experts specialising in primary flood and open water rescue, serving as an introduction to drowning cases and first aid.
