Muscat: In a step to ensure consumer safety, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MOCIIP) has recalled the ASKSTORM 40W charger manufactured by IKEA after it was found incompatible with the required standards.
In a statement, the ministry said this alert came after the Directorate General for Specifications and Measurements (DGSM) had responded to a notification from the ‘Gulf Urgent’ system concerning the recall of the ASKSTORM 40W charger over safety concerns.
The ministry called on the people who own this type of chargers to inform the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) about its presence, advising them to immediately stop using it.
According to the ministry, the danger of using frayed or damaged cables is that they can cause electrical shocks, fires, or equipment damage.
Frayed or damaged cables pose a significant risk due to the exposure of the internal wiring. This exposure can lead to a variety of dangerous situations. Firstly, if a person comes into contact with the exposed wires, they could receive a potentially lethal electrical shock. This is especially true if the person's skin is wet or if they are standing on a wet surface, as water is a good conductor of electricity.
