MUSCAT: The Food Security Lab 2024 kicked off on Sunday. The event is organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MoAFWR), in cooperation with Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit, the National Programme for Investment and Exports Development, a public drive code-named (Nazdahir), the National Employment Programme (NEP) and private sector companies.
The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr Saud bin Hamoud al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.
The lab seeks to enhance local and foreign investment in various food security sectors towards the realisation of the goals of Oman Vision 2040. It will introduce a number of enablers to support the food security sector, develop a package of investment opportunities related to in-country value (ICV), boost digital transition, identify challenges posed to the ministry’s plan and improve institutional performance.
The objectives include maximising economic return from natural resources by generating ICV-related investment opportunities, empowering local suppliers and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and activating initiatives to support suppliers and the Omani workforce.
