Muscat: The latest weather updates and analyses of the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Center indicate that the Sultanate of Oman will be affected by an upper-air low-system, starting from Monday 7th October, until Tuesday 8th October.

There are chances of cloud formation over Al Buraimi, Al Dhahira, Al Dakhilyia, North Al Batinah, and South Al Batinah governorates, with chances of isolated rain and occasional thundershowers.

The latest aerial images on Sunday showed the beginning of cumulus cloud formation and chances of scattered rain, sometimes thundery, in parts of the Al Hajar Mountains.

The Oman Met Office's weather forecast for rains this week over and around Al Hajar, where thunderstorms are expected to be active in parts of the Al Hajar Mountains, also stated that Cloud formations and rainfall of varying intensity, which could range between 20 and 50 mm, accompanied by thunderstorms, active downward winds, and hail, could also lead to the flow of wadis in Al Hajar Mountains and the surrounding areas during the afternoon and evening. This is expected to be from Monday to Wednesday from October 7th to 8th.

The Oman Met Office has stated that there are chances of low clouds or fog forming late at night and early in the morning that may lead to a decrease in horizontal visibility in parts of South Al Sharqiyah Governorate and parts of the coastal areas of Dhofar and Al Wusta Governorates and the coasts of the Sea of Oman. There is also a possibility of dust and dirt rising in the desert areas of Dhofar and Al Wusta Governorates.

The active downward wind is expected to have a speed of 15-45 knots, leading to reduced horizontal visibility and the flying of loose materials during thunderstorms.

Average wave height is expected to be around 1.5-2.0 meters on the coasts of the Sea of Oman and the western coasts of Musandam Governorate, and on the coasts of the Arabian Sea, it is expected to be calm with an average wave height of 1.5 meters.

The Met Office said on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 8-9, 2024, cumulus clouds are expected with chances of scattered rain over the Al Hajar Mountains and neighboring areas during the afternoon.

Chances of low clouds or fog formation late at night and early in the morning may lead to a decrease in horizontal visibility in parts of South Al Sharqiyah Governorate and parts of the coastal areas of Dhofar and Al Wusta Governorates and the coasts of the Sea of Oman.
