SALALAH: The Water Resources Symposium in Dhofar Governorate concluded in Salalah, emphasising the importance of preserving natural water resources and enhancing the framework for water management in the Sultanate of Oman. Participants stressed the need for a comprehensive database and engineering standards for water projects, as well as the importance of coordinating with climate change studies to mitigate environmental impacts. Key recommendations included the introduction of sustainable water management practices tailored to mountainous areas and the development of modern irrigation techniques. Experts also suggested launching public awareness campaigns on water conservation, particularly in regions affected by desertification and soil salinity. The symposium also advocated for leveraging renewable energy in water desalination projects, which could significantly reduce the Sultanate of Oman’s dependency on non-renewable resources. The event, organised by the General Directorate of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries, and Water Resources in cooperation with the Oman Water Society, saw the presentation of 28 scientific papers and proposals, focusing on water sustainability, agricultural innovation, and climate adaptation. Participants from both local and international organisations hailed the symposium as a vital step toward environmental resilience. — ONA
