MUSCAT, OCT 5

The first round of the 'Icon' girls' basketball tournament wrapped up with the Beltell team defeating the Muscat Sports Training Centre for Girls by a score of 48-36. Additionally, the national girls' basketball team, represented by the 'Oman' team, secured a victory over the International team, winning 44-36. The matches took place at the basketball court in Locals Park, located in Al Sarooj, Al Qurum.

Organised by the Women's Committee of the Oman Basketball Association and sponsored by Icon Interior Design Company, the tournament will run until October 16. Four teams are participating: the national girls' basketball team 'Oman,' the Muscat Sports Training Centre for Girls, Beltell, and the International team.

The next round of matches is set for next Wednesday, where the Muscat Sports Training Centre for Girls will take on the International team in the first game, followed by the 'Oman' national team competing against the Beltell team in the second match. Semifinal matches are scheduled for Saturday, culminating in the final on October 16.

Regarding the tournament's organisation, Hiba al Naabi, a member of the Board of Directors of the Oman Basketball Association and head of the Women's Committee, shared insights on the event. She noted that the 'Icon' girls' basketball tournament features many national team players alongside several girls from various expatriate communities residing in Oman.

Al Naabi highlighted the growing support from the private sector, as evidenced by the sponsorship from Icon Interior Design Company, which showcases the talents of both Omani and expatriate basketball players.

She emphasised that this tournament significantly contributes to the development of players' performance by providing a competitive and stimulating sports environment that enhances interaction between national team players and those from expatriate communities.

Al Naabi also mentioned that the organising committee extended the tournament's duration, despite the participation of only four teams, to increase the number of matches and offer each player a broader competitive experience.
