MUSCAT, OCT 4 Oman urged world leaders to bring an immediate end to Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine to achieve peace in the region. In a post on X, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, said true peace cannot be achieved by simply containing Iran, eliminating Hamas, or defeating Hezbollah. “It is easy for certain governments to stand by and condemn Iranian actions. But that solves nothing.” Criticising both the passive condemnation of Iran and the unconditional defence of Israel, Sayyid Badr stated that such policies fail to address the crisis in any meaningful way. The minister also condemned the long-standing international reluctance to secure Palestinian statehood, citing the erosion of Palestinian rights through illegal settlements and what he called an “apartheid regime". He called for immediate and genuine respect for international law, urging decisive global action to establish a fully sovereign Palestinian state. “This must change now,” he insisted, demanding that Israel’s military operations be suspended and the occupation brought to an end. He pointed out that supporters of Israel speak in the name of international law while repeatedly preventing its implementation in the case of Palestine, and this must change now, and respect for international law must be real not in words but through action. "The reality in this situation has been difficult to bear for a very long time, and many Western governments have postponed dealing with this reality and failed to ensure security and stability for the Palestinian people, which can only be provided by the state. The rights and lives of the Palestinian people under occupation have gradually eroded due to the expansion of illegal settlements and the imposition of apartheid." "Supporters of Israel speak in the name of international law while they repeatedly prevent its implementation in the case of Palestine. This must change now. Respect for international law must be genuine not by words but by taking action. Israel must be required to suspend its military operations in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon. This should be followed by collective international action to end Israel's illegal occupation of Palestine. A fully sovereign Palestinian state must be established, backed not just by the letter of the law but by all institutional and organisational resources of the international community," he said.
